How to host a safe bbq with social distancing
Fire up the grill and put on your apron, because it’s time for the Super Sunday Big Game! Even though gameday is taking a slightly different tone this year, we’re still excited for firing up the grills at a safe social distance with friends and family.
Here are a few things to keep in mind to help ensure a safe Super Sunday grill-out celebration.
Ask your guests ahead of time how you can best help them have a safe and enjoyable time.
Provide labels or markers to write names on cups, plates, and any other unique dishes to prevent mix-ups; teach children which ones are theirs.
Measure and outline suggested ‘zones’ for seating to help guests hang out at safe distances.
Clean your grill thoroughly and provide foil to wrap food to help prevent cross contact.
Use sanitary wipes to wipe down tables, chairs, toys, and cooking surfaces as often as possible and have extra wipes available for others to use when needed.
Be sure to talk to everyone in attendance, especially children, about not sharing food before the get-together starts.
Consider asking everyone to provide their own meals/food – this covers cross-contact.
If you’re serving food, designate a single person to serve guests while wearing gloves and a mask and at a safe distance from guests.
Provide an easily accessible trash area that requires no surface contact.
Keep tabs on how many alcoholic beverages you drink, as alcohol consumption may lower your ability to follow your planned out guidelines and also may lower inhibitions when it comes to social distancing.
When in doubt, eat a snack before you go. The fun in going to a Big Game party is really in enjoying your friends and the last game of year!
If you’re actively eating or drinking, wear a mask to protect those around you.
Lastly, enjoy the game and have a great time!
