Hiring a Pro FAQs

Let’s face it: even the most skilled DIYer eventually meets their match. Some items, like garage door springs, are a never DIY due to safety while others may just not have the time or tools needed to complete a project. Whatever reason you’re in need of a Pro, here are some frequently asked questions that we receive from our homeowners.

How can I save time?
When you hire a Pro to do work around your house on your own, you’re put through the rigamarole of searching for local Pros, googling their names for reviews and then weeding some out, calling or emailing the ones that sound ok, setting up times for quotes, waiting for quotes to come back, evaluating the quotes, and then scheduling a time for the work to be done with the best one. It’s exhausting!

With Househappy, all that you need to do to get the process started is fill out a request online or simply call, chat, or email us and we can help. We have an entire team dedicated to finding Pros interested in your project.

The fastest and easiest way to order services is through our app. You can add photos and details of your requests all in a couple of clicks!

Pets

What are things I should know about having a Pro in my home?
Mind your petiquette. We know that you love Fido, and it’s likely that your Pro has a pet at home that they love too. But for the safety of your dog or cat and any workers in your home, it’s important to keep your furry creatures out of the way so that they don’t escape or get accidentally get hurt. 🐾

Give them some space. It can be a little nerve-wracking to have workers in your home and you may feel the need to supervise whatever project that they’re doing. You should always feel free to ask as many questions as you need before they get started to make sure that you’re on the same page, but we recommend giving your Pro some space to do their work so that they can fully concentrate on the task at hand.

Let them know where to go. Your Pro doesn’t expect you to roll out the red carpet for them, but there are a few things that you can do to help them feel comfortable in your home. If the Pro will be on site for more than a few hours, you can show them a restroom they may use. If you have a utility sink where they can clean up, show them where that is located or where they can access a hose or spigot.

Nos

What should I do if I run into a problem?
Life happens and sometimes things pop up. If you need to cancel or move your appointment, please let us or the Pro know as soon as you can. We can work to get you rescheduled.

You should be satisfied with the work. Check in with the Pro before they leave so that they can explain the work they completed and can answer any questions that you have. If a problem pops up, it’s easier to resolve it before they leave. If you don’t get a chance to check-in and you’re unhappy with their work, please give us a call or let us know in your after-job survey so that we can make every effort to make it right.

Tip

Do I need to tip my Pro?
A tip is never required, but for some services, it’s more common. If you are hiring movers or having furniture delivered, then it might be a good idea to have some cash on hand to tip. For local moves, around $20 per person is common and for furniture delivery $5 to $20 per delivery person is standard. Having your windows cleaned? If it’s the owner of a company and one person, no tip is necessary. If it’s a crew, then $5 per person or $20 if one person is standard.

Show your appreciation during the holidays. If your Pro really wows you and you end up employing them regularly, then it’s a nice idea to tip them during the holidays or once a year as a thank you. For house cleaners and handyman or lawn care workers, a tip of up to $50 (or more depending on your budget) is a generous way to show your appreciation.

It’s ok to tip for above and beyond service. If your Pro really wowed you, the biggest compliment that you can give is to write a positive review. If you would like to go beyond that to show your appreciation, offering a $20 flat tip or up to 20% of the bill is usually appreciated. If you’re dealing directly with the owner of the company, they may not accept tips but will appreciate the gesture.
